The state of human rights in South Asia
What gets measured, gets improved. Since 2017, the Human Rights Measurement Initiative (HRMI) has been measuring human rights progress in countries around the world, including in South Asia, putting hard numbers to people’s experiences, and how their governments treat them.
HRMI produces scores measuring economic and social rights progress for all South Asian countries, and civil and political rights scores for four: India, Bangladesh, Nepal, and the Maldives. All the data for every country is freely available to view on the Rights Tracker.
In 2023, HRMI’s South Asia regional engagement lead produced four reports summarising the latest data, and highlighting the most significant information.
