Human Rights in South Asia: Current Challenges and Developments
What gets measured, gets improved.
The Human Rights Measurement Initiative (HRMI) has been tracking human rights developments in countries worldwide since 2017. HRMI tracks many South Asian countries and is able to provide scores for each country quantifying people’s experiences and how their governments treat them.
The scores HRMI generate reflect progress in economic and social rights for all South Asian nations, alongside civil and political rights scores, and all the data for each country is readily accessible on our Rights Tracker.
In 2025, HRMI has published five reports on Bangladesh, India, Maldives, Nepal, and Sri Lanka which summarise this year’s data.
